Some runs train the body; others train the mind.  Today's was the latter.

"We're conditioned to think that great athletes should stop competing when they're no longer great.  But if you enjoy running as much as I do, what's wrong with continuing to do it even if you are no longer one of the best?" - Steve Scott

Hooked up with the local running club and ran ~15 with them, then rousted Peter out of bed and did another 8.  Good training run.

Any run when you come back and your shoes are a different color is a good run.

A bit of a recovery run from yesterday.

A little short on time, so I upped the tempo and reduced the mileage, but I figured a short run is better than no run.

"Running turns any open place into my chapel.  The hour I spend each day as an ascetic, short of water and feeling the slight discomfort of genuine effort, provides me with the strength to know that I can live with less than the world would have me believe." - Dean Ottati

Slow and sloppy, but it got the job done, and I got some good thinking in.

I couldn't have topped yesterday's quote anyway...

Ran a group training run on the Pinhoti 100 course today with several friends from Huntsville.  The best guess on how far we went is 23-24.  The run started a little after the 18 mile mark on the race course and wound through the Pinhoti course, including running up Mt. Cheaha.  Needless to say, it was a fairly hilly, moderately technical course; couple that with a shortage of water at water stops, and it made for a pretty difficult run.  In any case, it's always good to get out on the course before a race to see what I'm up against.

Ran a little 5k in Montgomery this morning.  Clocked a 17:27 ~ish, which was good enough for the win, and made for a fun morning.
